Destin Pontoon Rentals

One of our favorite things to do in Destin is renting a Pontoon Boat for a half day.  You don’t need a boating license as a pontoon can be operated by just about anyone.    The white sand beaches and emerald waters are the highlights of Destin so why not spend a morning or afternoon exploring them?

A Pontoon boat can be rented from a number of boat rental companies down on the Harborwalk at the foot of the Destin bridge.   Set out on your own snorkeling or fishing adventure while stopping off on a sand bar or dropping anchor on Crab Island.  The beaches near Norriego point are easily accessible and are an excellent spot for exploring the underwater world.  If you have a group of at least eight, then this is a can’t miss activity for the family, spring breakers, partiers and retirees alike.   By simply asking the rental company where to go, they will direct you to the best sights to visit. 

*Tip
Don’t pay $20 for a snorkeling trip.  There is great snorkeling that is easily accessible by free public beach access areas.   Ask the rental company where to anchor for the best snorkeling and they will certainly point you in the right direction.

We recommend a half day rental as a full day in the sun can be intense.  Most Pontoons have a partial covering to protect from the sun.  Four hours is plenty of time to explore the Destin Harbor and Choctawhatchee Bay.  Venturing out into the Gulf is not generally allowed. 

Pricing

Half day rentals cost about $175-250 plus tax which includes gas while full day rentals will run about $300-400.  If you have eight people then you’re looking at about $30-40 per person for the half day.  This is a great value considering you can bring food and drink with you.

If you are in Destin on a long holiday weekend then be sure to reserve in advance.  It’s always best to call a couple days in advance to reserve if possible.  Many companies offer refunds if the weather does not cooperate but be sure to check policies in advance.
